About the Winery
Founded in 1991, Chamonix Estate is recognised by many winemakers and viticulturists as “the best situated wine farm in Franschhoek”. In the case of Franschhoek, higher-lying vineyards provide superior grapes, and here Chamonix’s reputation for superb fruit for winemaking is largely dependent on the elevation of the south-facing vines which are set between 300m and 650m above sea-level. This elevation on the mountain face provides layers of rocky soils conducive to varietal expression and character in the wines, as well as exposure to constant cooling air-flow from the south-east in summer and north-west in winter.
